This morning around 2AM we woke up to a loud bang and the power going off. We could not figure out what was going on. We got up and looked around the house and called the electric company to report the outage. Finally we started looking around outside the blinds (the moon was so bright and reflecting off of the snow, so we could see perfectly) and we saw a power line down running through our backyard. Rob called back with a power line down hoping that would get us moved up on the list. We finally went back to sleep and when we woke up we realized we were the ONLY ones without power. Rob called again and we were told there were over 300,000 without power. Since we were the only ones in our neighborhood we were not a priority. So off to work Rob had to go.
The boys and I did whatever we could to stay warm. We put on our robes, toboggans and snuggled up. Of course....this only lasted a little while.
The boys soon decided to play army men and build forts. They wanted to be outside so very badly. I kept explaining we couldn't get cold because there was no way for us to warm up.
We then had arts and crafts time and made banners and flags for the opening ceremonies for the XXI Winter Olympics. We LOVE the Olympics and could not wait to watch the ceremonies.
Corky had been texting me to check on us and I told him we were fine. When Rob went back to work after lunch the temperature dropped to 54, until then we had kept ourselves fairly warm. Corky text again and I told him, he said we will be there in 30 minutes to get you....pack your bags.
I was so very thankful for them to come get us. When we got to their house and ate a warm meal the boys and Collette headed out to play. Jake and Cade ran and threw snowballs at one another. Caleb buried Collette in the snow. They were all laughing and having the best time.
Rob finally got off work and called the electric company again and this time they said we could be without power for the next 48 hrs. He came and got me and we went home to pack our overnight bags. We were invited to stay at the Bed & Breakfast Curtis.
