Ranch-DAY 3

Of course, the day mother and I decided to stay home Dad and Caleb shot something. When they got to the blind it was dark and cold. Papa told Caleb he could play his PSP and Dad played on his iphone/napped. When it started getting light they put it all away and began watching, silently. In just a few minutes they saw movement and found the buck. They let him walk around for awhile and then Dad got him in his sights. They both froze and then Dad shot him. Caleb said his heart stopped and neither could breath for a short second. They waited another few minutes then climbed down and found him and called us.

Both of the boys decided they could be brave and watch Papa and their Dad get it ready to take to the butcher.

After showers, lunch and loading up the car we headed out. We were all sad to leave. We had a really nice, relaxing time. We had decided the day before on our way home we would take our time and visit the Capital and the University of Texas (for Cade of course).

We had such a fun time. After we left Austin we let the boys watch the portable DVD player and did not hear a peep from them until Waco. We fed them and used the bathroom and then didn't hear from them again until we got home. We were EXHAUSTED, but so thankful for the time we had away.

I'm impressed you and your mom hunted :) Was this the first time your boys got to hunt? Jeremy let Austin shoot his first buck when he was 6 (2 weeks later he turned 7), I was a little nervous but the precautions he takes makes me feel better. What's even crazier is that Austin gets out there and helps everyone gut their deer. Crazy kid!
